Mixed Veg Dal Paratha - Low-Calorie Paratha Recipe


Today's recipe under Low-Calorie Veg Recipe is going to be an Indian Bread. When talking about breads, almost all Indian breads are Flatbreads which are made in a Tawa on Tandoor without the addition of leavening agents. This Mixed Veg Dal Paratha is a regular on our weekdays' menu. It is packed with lot of veggies together with moong dal and is a Complete meal by itself. You don't have to spend time for making a side-dish. Just a plain curd or pickle would go well with this Paratha. I find it very easy to make for busy weeknights. Pick veggies of your choice and make variations with different legumes for variety in flavours. Do remember not to add too much Dal as it makes the Paratha dough sticky.

Yields - 12 Parathas

Ingredients:-

Wholewheat flour / Atta - 2cups + 1/4cup for dusting
Mixed veggies, very finely chopped - 1.5cups (I used cabbage, Purple cabbage, carrot and broccoli)
Moong dal - 1/2cup
Fresh peas - 1/2cup
Chilli powder - 2-3tsp
Kitchen King Masala - 2tsp
Jeera powder - 1tsp
Amchur powder - 1tsp
Salt - As needed
Oil - 1tsp for dough and 1/2tsp/Paratha

Method:-

1.  Firstly, pressure cook the moong dal and peas and keep it aside.


2.  Bring together all the ingredients mentioned above with 1tsp oil. Knead well to form a soft dough.DO NOT USE WATER. The moisture from the veggies and boiled dal would be just enough. If you feel the dough is still stickly, just add a little more Atta and make a smooth dough. Let it rest for 30min minimum.

3. Divide the dough into equal balls. Using a rolling pin, sprinkle some atta and roll into a Paaratha. Let it not be too thin.


4.  Heat an Iron griddle / tawa and cook the Parathas with just 1/2tsp oil on both sides until golden brown.


Serve hot with a simple Raita or plain curd and pickle for a nutritious, filling meal.
