Homemade Pizza Sauce | Easy Tomato Spread | Low-Calorie Recipe

Today's recipe is one among few versatile spreads, which comes handy, not only for Pizzas, but also for Bread Sandwiches. I also add it to my Mixed Veg Pastas. So, let's look at the step-wise guide to the preparation of Homemade Pizza sauce or Tomato Spread. It takes about 30mins to get it done.Pizza sauce can be prepared well ahead and kept refrigerated for around 2-3 weeks and used when required.

Wk 3 - Day 2
Dips,Chutneys & Spreads

Preparation time : 5 mins
Baking time : 20 mins
Yields : 500ml of Pizza sauce

Ingredients:

Tomatoes : 10 nos
Capsicum : 1(small)
Olive oil : 2 tblsp
Garlic pod : 1-2
Salt : As needed
Italian Seasoning / Oregano & Marjoram : 1-2 tblsp

Method:

1. Firstly, we need to blanch the tomatoes. For this, take a wide vessel, add tomatoes and cover it with water and bring to boil. Switch off the flame once you see the skin peeling away from the tomatoes. DO NOT overdo.

2. Pour away the water and allow it to cool for a few mintues.

3. Take half of them and cut into fine cubes. Blend the remaining into a puree.

4.  In a saucepan, add olive oil and saute the garlic until golden brown. This step is crucial as it brings out the flavour & the aroma of garlic. Add in the capsicum and saute for 2 minutes.

5. Add the chopped tomatoes and saute for another 2-3 mins till it turns mushy.

6.  Stir in the tomato puree, salt and chilli powder and simmer it for 20mins or until the   excess water is evaporated and its of spreadable consistency. Finally, add Italian seasoning to this and switch off the flame. It is this mixed herbs that give this Tomato Spread its unique flavour and aroma.

Yummy Pizza sauce / Tomato spread is ready to go with your Pizza or Any Sandwich! Relish!
